THE GAME BEHIND THE GRUDGE

About
Dead Last.

Dead Last is the Shithead / Palace card game from Dead Last Games, created by Daniel Adam Clarke. Its goal is simple: clear your cards before you become the final player left at the table.

A familiar game with one clear ruleset

Shithead and Palace are often learned from friends, so different groups bring different house rules. Dead Last gives every player at its table the same set of rules. Cards move from your hand to your face-up row and finally to the hidden cards that decide the finish.

The default special ranks are 2, 3, 7, 8 and 10. They reset the pile, preserve the effective top, require lower cards, skip a seat or burn the pile. Four consecutive equal ranks also burn. The complete rules guide explains the exceptions with worked turns, so players can check a disputed situation rather than guess.

Three ways to find a table

Private rooms support two to five players and use a shared room code. They are the way to organise a game with people you know. Public matchmaking offers two-, three- and four-player queues when you want to join other players.

Solo play puts you against four bots. It is a practical way to learn the card effects and practise your choices before inviting friends. The beginner walkthrough helps you read the table, and the strategy guide explores what to keep, what to shed and when to burn.

Play in your browser or on iPhone and iPad

You can play the web version here or find Dead Last on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The Android app is coming soon; no release date is announced on this website.

The browser requires JavaScript and a connection to load the game. Online rooms and matchmaking also require a connection during play. The mobile app supports offline bot games.
